F45 Training is one of the world’s fastest-growing fitness franchises. It offers a unique workout experience that combines high-intensity interval training (HIIT), circuit exercise training, and a functional training system.

Founded in Australia in 2011 and franchising since 2013, F45 has quickly taken the fitness industry by storm with 598 locations in the US and over 1,700 studios across 45 countries as of the start of 2022.

Is F45 a franchise or chain?

F45 is an Austin, TX-based fitness franchise that offers group training classes at various locations around the world. The boutique fitness operator is known for their circuit workouts that each have a 45-minute duration.

The company does not release detailed financial information and unlike traditional gyms or fitness franchises, F45 offers a unique experience that combines high-intensity interval training with team-based workouts.

Does Mark Wahlberg own F45?

In 2019, Mark Wahlberg’s investment team purchased a minority stake investment in F45 before they went public: when it was valued at $450 million.

The company has since experienced rapid growth and thanks to Mark Wahlberg’s involvement, F45 has become one of the most successful fitness brands in the world.

How Many F45 franchises are there?

There are more than 1,700 F45 franchises worldwide. The company was founded in Australia in 2011, and it has rapidly expanded to locations across multiple continents. In addition to its traditional gyms, F45 also offers “studios” that are specifically designed for group fitness classes. The company has been successful due to its unique approach to fitness, which combines high-intensity interval training with functional movements.

This combination allows members to achieve maximum results in a short amount of time. Additionally, the group atmosphere of the classes helps to motivate and encourage participants.

How much does an F45 franchise cost?

If you’re thinking about opening an F45 franchise, you may be wondering how much it will cost. The total investment required to open and operate an F45 studio can range from $350,000 – $565,000.

This includes the cost of leasing or purchasing a suitable location, outfitting the studio with the necessary equipment, and covering other start-up and training costs.

There are also other costs associated with running the franchise location such as a 7% monthly royalty fee or $2500/month (whichever is higher) and up to a 2% brand fund fee of $200 (whichever is higher).

However, it’s important to note that the actual amount you’ll need to invest will depend on a number of factors, including the size and location of your studio. If you’re looking for a high-quality fitness franchise that offers a proven business model, F45 is definitely worth considering.

What is the F45 franchise fee?

F45’s initial franchise fee is $50,000. This fee gives you the right to use the F45 name and branding, as well as access to the company’s online support system.

The franchise fee also covers the cost of initial training and ongoing support from the F45 corporate team. It is important to consider all costs when evaluating whether or not an F45 franchise is right for you.

How much do F45 franchise owners make?

F45 is a popular Australian fitness franchise that has been expanding rapidly in recent years. According to the S1, F45 franchise owners can expect to make an average of $106,000 EBITDA per year (average gross sales is $354,000, with average EBITDA margins in excess of 30%).

However, this figure is likely to vary depending on a number of factors, such as the location of the franchise, the size of the facility, suppliers’ professional services, arranged suppliers’ furniture, and other factors.

Moreover, it is important to note that franchise owners are responsible for all costs associated with running their business, including rent, utilities, and staff salaries.

As a result, those who are considering opening an F45 franchise should be aware that there is significant financial risk involved. A franchisee’s future financial performance will depend on a number of factors once a new franchise owner signs the franchise agreement.

Nonetheless, for those who are willing to invest the time and money, a F45 franchise can be a lucrative business venture.

The Wolf’s Take 🍟

F45 does not make any financial representations in their Franchise Disclosure Documents.

Unfortunately, while franchises do have the ability to do so, they are not required to disclose their financials to prospective buyers and investors. In the absence of FDD data, we can look at other metrics to determine if F45 is a worthy franchise opportunity.

For one, F45 is a public company and has over 1,749 locations worldwide. Given that they were founded in 2011, this is a meteoric pace of expansion for any franchise! This clearly signals that not only does their fitness offering have a product-market fit with customers, but there must be franchisees doing well for this growth to continue.

Given that they’re a public entity in the United States, we do have access to what’s known as S1 documents. From those, F45 disclosed an average unit volume of approximately $354,000, with average EBITDA margins in excess of 30%.

Assuming those numbers are accurate, this means the average franchisee’s EBITDA is roughly $106,000.

Lastly, prior to going public, F45 was backed by Mark Wahlberg, whose investment team took a minority stake in the company in 2019 when they were valued at $450 million.

The Hollywood star’s investment was inspired by discovering something unique at F45:

“People at any level of fitness can come in and do the workout, and I had never seen anything like that before. Somebody who’s clearly at the beginning of their fitness journey working out with somebody who is an elite athlete, and being able to do the same exercises, where they’re modified, never the same exercise twice. It’s absolutely fantastic.”

When F45 went public in 2021, Mark Wahlberg made at least a $200 million return on his investment, which is more than he made from acting in 2019 and 2020.
